Why Stevenage’s Tom Pett is in a Little spot of bother
FOOTBALLERS can expect to get stick from fans when they fail to get on the scoresheet – but Stevenage’s Tom Pett is getting it from his other half!
And when your partner is a top professional in the women’s game, then you can’t argue that she doesn’t know what she’s talking about…
Pett’s missus is Seattle Reign and Scotland international, Kim Little, 25, formerly of Arsenal Ladies. She’s notched 44 goals in 108 games for her country.
Midfielder Pett, 24, meanwhile, has scored just once for Stevenage this season.
“She (Kim) has been giving me a bit of stick for not scoring,” Pett told the
Hertfordshire Mercury. “She’s been at the last couple of games. I can take it, it’s fine.
“She’s going away to Scotland in the next couple of weeks for a friendly and then she’s going back to the States for another season. She’s going to sunny Seattle while we’re grafting!”
DEAN Wells never thought he would see the day when a supporter sung his name – let alone when a young fan donned a fake beard in his honour!
Not so long ago the Stevenage centraldefensive warrior was sitting in a cell missing his boy after serving time for his part in an organised fight between rival Brentford and Leyton Orient fans.
But five years on, Wells is now the perfect role model – turning not just his career on its head, but his life around.
Perhaps the moment he knew he had completed the transformation came hours before Boro’s League Two match with Exeter City last weekend.
Young Harry Garner got busy – the seven-year-old Stevenage supporter convinced dad Paul to get the Sellotape and scissors out and slap on a fresh facial trim.
The picture was sent to the club’s twitter account and they retweeted the garden shot to their near-30,000 followers – and little Harry was suddenly a well-known figure at the Lamex Stadium.
Wells, 30, said: “It’s brilliant – I could never have predicted a supporter would make such a special effort to go to a game looking like me.
“Even though we lost 2-0 I hope Harry enjoyed his day. It was a lovely gesture.”
