CHESTERFIELD midfielder Connor Dimaio is back at his hometown club and enjoying his new-found celebrity status.

Dimaio, 20, came through Sheffield United’s academy but, after being released in February, he signed for Chesterfield, the team he supported as a boy.

The Republic of Ireland youth international has already made a big impression with the Spireites, scoring on his home debut in the 3-1 win against Crewe, and is keen to maintain his good form. He said: “Since day one, I’ve tried to show what I can do, and I think that has been noticed by the gaffer and the coaches.

“Ritchie (Humphreys) and Drew (Talbot) have helped, they have so much experience in the game, so they pass that on and it’s been good to chat with them.”

The youngster’s early success has also led to supporters stopping him in an around Chesterfield and asking for autographs.

“It used to be me trying to say hello to Chesterfield players, so it’s a bit strange now people want to come up and say hello to me,” he said.
