ROB JONES can be a calming influence on the Hartlepool squad, according to manager Craig Hignett.

Jones – a towering 36-yearold centre-back – left Doncaster, where he had a spell as caretaker manager earlier this season, by mutual consent last month.

He joins Pools until the end of the season in their bid to avoid relegation out of the Football League.

“He’s going to bring experience and leadership,” said Hignett.

“The big thing is that Rob knows the game and has great experience at this level.

“He’ll talk to people if they need advice or guidance and I’m sure he will be a big asset for us.

“He’s been a coach and that’s something he wants to keep on learning, too.

“He’s a thinker about the game and he’s been excellent since he’s been in.”
