BLACKPOOL defender Clark Robertson has won praise from manager Neil McDonald after a mad dash to Scotland to be at the birth of his son before returning to play in Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw at Chesterfield.

Robertson, 22, hit the road from Blackpool in the early hours of Monday morning and drove 300 miles to be with his partner Karla when she gave birth to Cole Taylor Robertson at 7am.

He then flew back to take his place in the side and completed the 90 minutes.

“I got the call at 12.30am and got in the car as soon as I could,” said Robertson. “I made it to the birth just in time.”

McDonald was impressed by Robertson’s efforts and he said: “Clark went back up to Scotland and came back just before the game, so his performance was a real credit.

“He flew down before the game and has left his car up in Scotland.

“Considering all that, his performance was outstanding. He put a real shift in for the team and for his new son.”
