PAY CUT ‘WON’T DISTRACT SKIPPER’

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE TWO - By Paddy von Behr

PORT VALE captain Carl Dickinson says his focus is on trying to win promotion – and not about pay cuts.

Vale owner Norman Smurthwaite is looking to sell the club and, if he can’t, any out-of-contract players who want to remain at the club will need to take a pay cut of between 30 and 40 per cent.

Dickinson is one of those out-of-contract players.

He said: “My priority is keeping my head down, making sure I work hard and do as well as I can for the team. Whatever happens then will happen.

“I am really enjoying my football, I am happy here.

“I live 25 minutes away and my family are settled, with my little boy at school and my little girl at nursery.

“But, at the end of the day, I have to do whatever I need to for my family.

“If I am offered something here and we can get something sorted out then brilliant. If not, then so be it.”
