ANDREW TAYLOR can forgive team-mate Ola John for any lack of defending as the Reading winger more than makes up for it at the other end of the pitch.

John is at the Madejski Stadium on a season-long loan from Benfica and his performances have led to Jamaica international Garath McCleary being reduced to a substitute’s role.

McCleary did climb off the bench to score in the 1-1 draw with Cardiff City last time out, but Dutchman John, 23, has been in inspired form recently, netting against both Charlton and Huddersfield.

Full-back Taylor, on loan from Wigan, has had a front row view as he occupies the space behind the winger.

And, while he readily admits he could do with some more defensive help on occasions, Taylor is not about to lay into John.

“He’s one of those players who can create something out of nothing,” said Taylor.

“He might over-elaborate at times but on his day he can beat anybody and he’s a matchwinner.”
