PASSION OF TOON IS DRAW TO ATSU
CHELSEA’S Christian Atsu says the prospect of playing in front of Newcastle United’s fanatical supporters convinced him to make a season-long loan move to Tyneside.
St James’ Park housed the second highest attendance in England last weekend as they comfortably beat Brighton & Hove Albion 2-0 for a first win over the Seagulls since 1990.
Atsu has done time at five different clubs since joining Chelsea from Porto in 2013, but the Ghana international is now desperate to show the Magpies’ super fans his best football.
“That will be amazing, to play in front of those fans. I can’t wait,” the 24-year-old attacking midfielder said.
“I’ve seen the fans. They are really great, and playing in front of a lot of fans gives you a lot of confidence.
“At home, you can see the fans cheering the team. I’m really happy and excited and I can’t wait to play in front of them.
“It gives you a lot of confidence when you are playing and I always look forward to seeing the fans behind the team, behind the players.
“It boosts the team, so I hope they will be doing that for us each and every time we are playing.”
