GARY ROWETT believes loan striker Lukas Jutkiewicz gives his Birmingham side the physical edge required to succeed in the Championship after joining from Burnley.

With forward Clayton Donaldson, 32, absent on Jamaica international duty, Jutkiewicz bolsters the Blues’ striking options.

And, having turned out for Bolton, Middlesbrough and Burnley, he certainly provides experience.

Birmingham sit tenth in the Championship and, with Jutkiewicz at St Andrew’s until at least January, Rowett is excited by the 27-year-old target man.

“With Lukas, we need to get him going again and give him the platform to start scoring goals again,” said Rowett. “[He needs] the opportunity to start playing more regularly.

“He’s had some really good moves recently. Burnley signed him for £1.6million.

“He’s not scored for them but he leads the line and gives you a real presence. We know that from experience. In the second game of last season he caused us a lot of problems.”
