The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP - By Andrew Lawton

JORDAN HUGILL says the burning ambition of everyone at Preston North End convinced he and Paul Gallagher to sign new contracts with the Lilywhites this week.

Hugill, 24, has extended his stay at Deepdale by three years, while 32-yearold Gallagher will be at the club until the summer of 2018.

The Middlesbroughborn striker believes his hard work has paid off .

“The set-up here is fantastic,” Hugill said. “The staff are brilliant on and off the training pitch. They are always there to help you.

“The way the club wants to move forward and the way we want to play as a team are the reasons why everyone wants to sign back on.

“I went away last season and knew I had to give myself a good chance of playing this season. The only way for me to do that was to work a lot in the offseason on my fitness and other sides of the game.

“This is a reward for all the hard work I have put in, but it doesn’t stop there. I still have a long way to go.

“But this new contract gives me the time to develop as a player and then stamp my foot down on getting that regular starting position.”

Former Leicester City forward Gallagher is in his third spell at Preston, for whom he has made 160 appearances. He believes he’s at the top of his game.

“I think I’m playing the best football of my career and I’m probably the happiest I have been, too,” he said. “If you are happy, you are going to perform on the pitch.”
