GOALKEEPER Jak Alnwick believes Port Vale need to pull off a Christmas cracker at home to stay in with a real shout of promotion this season.

The Valiants have slipped down the league after picking up one point out of a possible nine.

Now, they have the chance to rectify that, with three out of their four league games this month at Vale Park.

“December and January define the league. I always say that every year, no matter what league you’re in. It normally defines your season,” said Alnwick, 23, pictured.

“It’s massive because, if you win two or three games, it puts you right in there.

“We’ve been in the top six more times than we were last year and we know we can get in there. We know we can compete with the big boys. We’re up there and all we have to do is string those performances together.

“We’ve been a bit hit and miss this season, so it’s about getting the consistency of winning a few games in a row.”
