OAKLEY IS MOURNED BY POOLS
FORMER Hartlepool United goalkeeper Norman Oakley has died at the age of 77.
Stockton-born Oakley was Pools’ No.1 for six years after joining from Doncaster Rovers in 1958.
Only Scott Flinders has made more appearances between the sticks for them than Oakley, who turned out 193 times at Victoria Park to Flinders’ 252 between 2009 and 2015.
Oakley started his career at Firth Moor and Wingate Welfare.
After Hartlepool, he moved to Swindon Town for £6,000 in 1964, and also had a spell at Grimsby, before returning to the north-east after retiring.
