OAK­LEY IS MOURNED BY POOLS

FOR­MER Hartle­pool United goal­keeper Nor­man Oak­ley has died at the age of 77.

Stock­ton-born Oak­ley was Pools’ No.1 for six years af­ter join­ing from Doncaster Rovers in 1958.

Only Scott Flin­ders has made more ap­pear­ances be­tween the sticks for them than Oak­ley, who turned out 193 times at Vic­to­ria Park to Flin­ders’ 252 be­tween 2009 and 2015.

Oak­ley started his ca­reer at Firth Moor and Win­gate Wel­fare.

Af­ter Hartle­pool, he moved to Swin­don Town for £6,000 in 1964, and also had a spell at Grimsby, be­fore re­turn­ing to the north-east af­ter re­tir­ing.
