MANAGER Lee Johnson believes he and Bristol City are a match made in heaven after signing a new contract with the club.

Johnson joined the Robins from Barnsley in February and helped maintain their Championship status last year, before leading them to a comfortable mid-table position this term.

The 35-year-old appeared almost 200 times for City during his playing days and has now agreed a deal that should keep him at Ashton Gate until 2020.

“I’m delighted and encouraged that (owner) Steve Lansdown and the board have offered me this opportunity to extend my contract so early into my tenure,” said Johnson, who started his managerial career at Oldham in 2013.

“It just confirms how happy I am about my time back here so far and shows we are doing something right.

“I’ve really enjoyed my nine months in charge and the personal relationships I’ve built with the staff, board, players and supporters.

“Like I said when I was appointed, Bristol City is the perfect club for me. We want to deliver success – everything about the club is progressive and that’s why I’m desperate to be a part of that in the longterm.”
