VICKERS KEEN TO GRAB HIS CHANCE

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE TWO - By Ben Baker

LOANEE Josh Vickers is relishing the opportunity of a stint in Barnet’s firstteam after an injury to No.1 stopper Jamie Stephens.

The 21-year-old goalkeeper, currently on a season-long loan from Premier League Swansea, came off the bench for Stephens after nine minutes last weekend to help the Bees move into the play-off places, courtesy of a win at Leyton Orient.

“I’ve really enjoyed myself,” he said. “I’ve had a few Non-League spells [at Concord Rangers and Canvey Island] but this is my first loan spell in the Football League and that’s massive for anyone.

“You want to be playing games, rather than being sat around.

“Under-18s and Under21s are good to an extent, but this is proper football and where you learn.”

Vickers has had to push Stephens, Barnet’s reigning player of the year, hard for a spot but says he was gutted to see him on the treatment table.
