But Forte ensured Notts claimed victory when he blasted in from close-range after Haydn Hollis’ shot had been parried by Glenn Morris.

Nolan was appointed just over two weeks ago and the former Newcastle and West Ham captain was thrilled with what he witnessed.

“It feels good,” said Nolan. “I have to praise the lads because they have taken on board what we have done.

“They were brilliant from one to 13 as the lads who came off the bench played their part.

“We were together and the performanc­e ensured we thoroughly deserved what we got. I hope the fans enjoyed it.

“It’s not great for the heart, I must admit. But I am young enough and fit enough to be able to take it.
