DAVE CAN SEE SIGNS OF POOLS IMPROVING
HARTLEPOOL boss Dave Jones believes the club are heading in the right direction after grabbing their first win under his command.
After arriving at Pools in January, Jones went six games without a win before last Tuesday’s 4-0 victory against Crewe, which took them six points clear of the drop zone.
“Bit by bit, things are growing,” said the 60-yearold. “We are still in a learning process with so many changes taking place around the place. We are trying to get a grip on what we are trying to do.”
Jones will be hoping that 32-year-old captain Billy Paynter’s Achilles injury is not serious enough to require surgery that would rule him out for the remainder of the season.
“It looked like he’d be needing an op but they are trying something different to see if it will help him,” said Jones.
“Hopefully, it’ll work. They don’t think it is severe enough to warrant an operation.”
