MARVIN EARNS U’S WEMBLEY RETURN
MARVIN Johnson struck five minutes from time to earn Oxford United a thrilling win in the Checkatrade Trophy semi-final at Luton last Wednesday. Phil Edwards put the U’s ahead in the tenth minute and it looked all over when Johnson’s shot deflected off Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu to make it 2-0 in the 69th minute. However, League Two side Luton responded brilliantly. Isaac Vassell pulled one back three minutes later before ex-Oxford striker Danny Hylton levelled things up with eight minutes left. Johnson had the last word, though, when he fired home the winner in the 85th minute. There will be an allLeague One final at Wembley on April 2 as the U’s take on Coventry. Oxford will be hoping to go one better than last season when they lost 3-2 to Barnsley in the final of the then-named Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
