The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP - By Charlie Bennett

IT HAS been a rocky season for Gillingham, but midfielder Emmanuel Osadebe is adamant they will finish on a high and confirm their League One spot for next season.

Two wins from three games, prior to yesterday’s clash with Scunthorpe, has put daylight between them and the relegation zone after a difficult run of form, which resulted in Justin Edinburgh’s departure in January.

After a tough introduction to the club, new boss Ady Pennock has started to steady the ship with wins against Southend and Bury in the past fortnight lifting the tension at Priestfield.

And 20-year-old Osadebe believes the squad have finally regained their confidence, allowing them to look forward and sign off with a flourish as they target a mid-table place.

“The boys are all fired up and ready for the fight and we will stay up – 100 per cent,” he said.

“We want to finish the season as best we can. It has been a terrible season. The manager left and the results didn’t really change, but now we are picking ourselves up and getting better. It is all good now.

“We can’t look back. We have to look forward and finish these last games on a high.”
