SAMBA IN WAITING GAME AT THE VILLA

The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP -

ASTON Villa boss Steve Bruce says he is still mulling over whether to offer Christopher Samba a contract but expects a decision in the next fortnight.

Centre-back Samba, best known to British fans from his spells at Blackburn and QPR, has been training with Villa to improve his fitness and potentially earn a deal after leaving Greek side Panathinaikos.

Bruce says it is not a trial but acknowledges there is a decision soon to be made regarding the 32year-old.

“I’ve got to sit down with him and his representative and see but there’s been nothing decided just yet,” said Bruce.

“I watched Samba on Monday night. I’ve known him through Big Sam (Allardyce) and he’s wanted to come and train.

“There’s this notion that he’s on trial. It’s not really a trial as such. He wants to earn a contract and we’ve given him the platform to keep fit.

“He is here getting some match practice and improving his physical levels. He is good to have around but he is a bit short physically.”
