BURGESS STARTS POMPEY CHIMES

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE ONE -

PORTSMOUTH jumped into the automatic promotion places with a solid 2-0 victory at Crawley. Pompey’s Eoin Doyle had a 53rd-minute penalty saved by Crawley keeper Glenn Morris, but a minute later Christian Burgess headed home and Kyle Bennett wrapped things up with the second. The win enabled Pompey to leapfrog Carlisle and Luton into third place. Second-placed Plymouth fluffed a great chance to extend their lead over the chasing pack when they were beaten 3-0 at home by Blackpool. Mark Cullen, Brad Potts and Jordan Flores netted. There were suggestions Plymouth had switched to their white away kit because their green home strip clashes with the green seats and grass, but Pilgrims boss Derek Adams denied it. The away kit failed to do the trick, however, as Plymouth’s miserable midweek home league run continued.
