UWE HAS SHOWN THE WAY, SAYS SAM

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE TWO - By Andrew Lawton

SAM Baldock knows it will be a squad effort if Brighton are to gain promotion to the Premier League, after praising the impact of Uwe Huenemeier in the Seagulls’ defence.

With regular defender Shane Duffy, 25, having surgery on his foot and not expected back until late April, 31-year-old Huenemeier has stepped up for the promotion-chasers.

And striker Baldock, 28, whilst impressed by the German’s impact, expects the entire squad to be ready and waiting to step in when they are required in the first team.

“He’s (Shane Duffy) a big loss and has been one of our best players this year,” he said. “He’s been very solid and formed a great partnership with Dunky (Lewis Dunk), but credit to Uwe, he’s been brilliant in training.

“He’s not moaned and got on with everything. His opportunity has come and he’s taken it. I’m sure he’ll continue to do it because he’s a very good player.

“It’s a squad game and players know they’ll get their opportunities at some point. Whoever it is, they’re training properly and training hard.

“Credit to the staff, they’re keeping everyone on their toes. We know it’s going to be a squad effort that gets us over the line.”
