THE last thing Bristol Rovers defender James Clarke expected at Bury on Tuesday was a neardeath experience – but manager Darrell Clarke says he is lucky to be alive.

The 27-year-old was rushed to hospital after an allergic reaction to nuts and was retained overnight after the incident, which could have cost him his life.

“It was a very big scare; life-threatening, ” said manager Clarke.

“My medical team and Bury’s medical team acted very quickly to get him off to hospital.

“The doctors advised that, if had he not been treated so quickly, he could have been dead.”
