SURGERY RULES OUT PAYNTER
HARTLEPOOL captain Billy Paynter will be out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair his damaged Achilles.
The 32-year-old striker has not played for Pools since January but the club initially tried to deal with the problem via a series of injections.
“We wanted to give Billy the best chance of getting back this season,” explained head physio Ian Gallagher.
“Billy wanted to do everything to get back but it’s got to the stage where the right thing is to have the operation and make sure he’s fit and ready for the start of pre-season.”
