TOP MAN RAY’S SET TO FEEL THE PAIN
AM I worried that people are avoiding my phone calls? Not at all – they always do!
Since announcing this year’s March for Men, 15 marathons in 15 days, I’ve been mentioning it to a lot of people to see if they fancy joining me on the open road.
This year, we’re walking from St James Park in Exeter to St James’ Park, Newcastle, with a lot of stops at Football League and Non-League clubs along the way.
Ray Wilkins is ever willing to support a good cause. He did the opening two days last year – he couldn’t walk for ten days after, mind. He suffered.
But he’s happy to give it a go for a couple of stages this time. When an ex-England captain supports you, it’s a good start.
I’m working on a new quiz show for ITV, Alphabetical, so I’ve managed to rope in the executive producer and producer. But most of the celebrities will come from the world of football. They’ve got no excuse this year because the football season is over.
A lot of the boys are making special efforts to come back from their holidays to take part at some stage.
We’ve also got a Q&A in London on May 8 called Jeff
Meets. David Gower, Will Greenwood, Paul Merson and a lot of the Soccer Saturday boys will be there.
It will help raise awareness of the walk and, hopefully, a sizeable chunk of money. It will be a very relaxed evening.
The idea is everyone gets to listen to some outstanding British sportsmen from the last couple of decades.
Hearing David Gower will be great and Will Greenwood is a master at after-dinner speaking. He’s brilliantly entertaining, as is Merse, one of the best in the business. People who come along are in for a treat. Jeff Stelling will be lacing up his walking boots once more in another unbelievable challenge for Prostate Cancer UK, aiming to raise £500,000 on his March for Men. That’s 15 walking marathons in 15 days from June2-16, from Exeter City to Newcastle United – St James Park to St James’ Park. Details at prostatecanceruk.org/jeffsmarch.
