The Football League Paper - - CHAMPIONSHIP - By Charlie Bennett

PAUL Lambert has vowed to buy British this summer as he plots to return Wolves back to the top flight.

The Midlands club have suffered a disappointing campaign, with Lambert replacing Walter Zenga in November, and only a strong spring guaranteeing their place in the second tier next season.

“I will look at the domestic league because there are good players here,” he said.

“That’s not to say you don’t look foreign because you get robust foreign players who play 40-plus games a year, play in front of big crowds and they know the demands of it.

“It might take them a few weeks to adapt but they can be robust, so you can’t dismiss it.

“This Championship is a dogfight at times and you have to have that up-and-atthem battle. It ain’t always going to be pretty but you know you can put people in the fray.

“You adapt to the country you play in. But we’ve also got to have a British core.”
