Redknapp bags first win
HARRY Redknapp’s Birmingham City took a giant step to Championship safety with a 2-0 win against play-off qualifiers Huddersfield – but they’re not safe yet.
The Blues did it the hard way as Lukas Jutkiewicz missed a penalty and Che Adams was sent off before goals from Jonathan Grounds and Craig Gardner (pen) earned Redknapp his first win. The Blues lie 20th, two points ahead of Blackburn and Nottingham Forest in the fight to avoid the drop with one game left. Wigan were relegated after a 1-0 defeat at Reading.
Brighton missed the chance to clinch the title, going down 1-0 at home against Bristol City.
In League Two, Plymouth took top spot with a 2-1 home win against Crewe.
Already-relegated Leyton Orient’s home match against Colchester, won 3-1 by the visitors, finished behind-closed-doors following an almost two-hour delay after O’s fans flooded the pitch to protest against owner Francesco Becchetti.
The EFL said: “The game needed to be played to a conclusion in order to maintain the integrity of the competition.”
