Red­knapp bags first win

HARRY Red­knapp’s Birm­ing­ham City took a gi­ant step to Cham­pi­onship safety with a 2-0 win against play-off qual­i­fiers Hud­der­s­field – but they’re not safe yet.

The Blues did it the hard way as Lukas Jutkiewicz missed a penalty and Che Adams was sent off be­fore goals from Jonathan Grounds and Craig Gard­ner (pen) earned Red­knapp his first win. The Blues lie 20th, two points ahead of Black­burn and Not­ting­ham For­est in the fight to avoid the drop with one game left. Wi­gan were rel­e­gated after a 1-0 de­feat at Read­ing.

Brighton missed the chance to clinch the ti­tle, go­ing down 1-0 at home against Bris­tol City.

In League Two, Ply­mouth took top spot with a 2-1 home win against Crewe.

Al­ready-rel­e­gated Ley­ton Ori­ent’s home match against Colch­ester, won 3-1 by the vis­i­tors, fin­ished be­hind-closed-doors fol­low­ing an al­most two-hour de­lay after O’s fans flooded the pitch to protest against owner Francesco Bec­chetti.

The EFL said: “The game needed to be played to a con­clu­sion in or­der to main­tain the in­tegrity of the com­pe­ti­tion.”
