BOSS IS THE KEY FOR U’S – JOHN

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE TWO RESULTS - By Sam Hawthorn

OXFORD midfielder John Lundstram admits the giant strides made by the club in the past few seasons mean they will face a real battle to keep some of their key performers.

But Lundstram, 23, believes the most important person to keep at the Kassam Stadium is head coach Michael Appleton.

Appleton has overseen a promotion, two Wembley finals, a host of cup giantkillings and an eighth-place finish in their first season back in the third tier for 15 years.

He was linked to the England Under-21s job at one time and skipper Lundstram expects there to be other interest.

“That’s what comes with doing well and it’s no secret just how good he is,” said Lundstram.

“The manager is the most important person at this club.

“His man-management has driven us forward and massive credit to him.

“He’s brought us a long way in the time he’s been here.”
