AC­CRING­TON Stan­ley have sacked mid­fielder Paddy Lacey af­ter he was handed a 14-month FA ban for breach­ing anti-dop­ing reg­u­la­tions.

The 24-year-old tested pos­i­tive for a me­tab­o­lite of co­caine af­ter the club’s match against Hartle­pool on Novem­ber 22.

He was im­me­di­ately sus­pended by Stan­ley pend­ing the out­come of FA dis­ci­plinary ac­tion. The League Two side have now ter­mi­nated his con­tract. His ban runs un­til mid-Fe­bru­ary.

“Ac­cring­ton Stan­ley has strong val­ues on any­one tak­ing any pro­hib­ited sub­stances and will al­ways act in the strong­est possible way to pro­tect the in­tegrity of the foot­ball club,” Stan­ley said in a state­ment.
