“Ek­strand was prob­a­bly the big­gest dis­ap­point­ment for me. He’s a bril­liant lad who looks af­ter him­self, but he tweaked his knee in his first game and needed an op­er­a­tion straight­away. That was a big blow.”

Rother­ham have of­fered Cardiff ’s Tom Adeyemi, 25, terms fol­low­ing his sea­son­long loan, while con­tract of­fers have also been made to Richie Small­wood and Joe Mat­tock, both 26, and Richard Wood, 31.

Striker Jon­son Clarke-Har­ris, 22, has agreed a new one-year deal. MAN­AGER Paul Warne has thanked Lee Camp, Stephen Kelly and Joel Ek­strand for their ef­forts af­ter bring­ing their Rother­ham ca­reers to an end.

Goal­keeper Camp, 32, who has been heav­ily linked with a move to Cardiff, full-back Kelly, 33, and Swedish de­fender Ek­strand, 28, have been re­leased by the rel­e­gated Millers, along­side de­fend­ers Kelvin Wil­son, 31, and Tom Thorpe, 24, plus at­tack­ing mid­fielder Chris Daw­son, 24.

“Campy has been bril­liant, al­though this sea­son has been cut re­ally short by in­jury,” said Warne. “Play­ers have a shelf life at a club.
