POMPEY FAIRYTALE BETTER WITH SUPPORTERS’ INPUT

The Football League Paper - - NEWS -

PORTSMOUTH have a new owner in Michael Eisner – and the former Disney chief executive is making all the right noises. “My family and I are thrilled to take on this incredible responsibility as stewards of a football club with such a rich heritage,” said the 75-year-old American (inset), who will now form a ‘heritage board’ to protect the club’s name, badge and colours. But wouldn’t a grander gesture have been to find a place for the Pompey Supporters’ Trust on his board? As it stands, all four PST members will be – willingly – removed from post. Yet these are the very people who saved the club from extinction in 2013. Yes, Portsmouth need fresh investment. And there is no suggestion that Eisner’s reign will be anything but a fairytale. But surely the most effective way to safeguard a club’s future is to put those who treasure it most in the midst of the decisionmaking process.
