Winner takes it all with ABBA penalty system

The Football League Paper - - LEAGUE TWO -

MANY teams have had a dream crushed by penalty shoot-out disappointment over the years. And it’s long been felt that the side going first have an unfair advantage in the shootout, with extra pressure on the side going second. Now the EFL are set to take a chance on the ABBA format in their competitions this seasons. It means that instead of the shoot-out going Team A, Team B, Team A, Team B, it will now go Team A, Team B, Team B, Team A etc. The name of the game will still be victory and the winner will still take it all, but it’s hoped the new system will make things fairer for both sides. The first round of the Carabao Cup will present the first potential opportunity for the new system to come into use with games taking place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
