DANNY Newton became the first player to graduate from Jamie Vardy’s V9 Academy and earn a professional deal when he signed for Stevenage earlier this summer – and the striker is determined to repay Boro’s faith.

The 26-year-old moved to the Lamex Stadium from Tamworth, where he had spent the previous two campaigns, racking up 29 goals last season.

He also spent time at the V9 Academy last term, before making an immediate impression for Stevenage by scoring on debut in a 3-3 draw against Newport County.

And while matching Vardy’s rise from Nonleague to Premier League winner will take some doing, Newton is keen to build on a promising start at Stevenage.

“I feel quite confident so hopefully I can go on a little run and get a few,” said Newton.

“I leave everything out on the pitch and hopefully the goals will come with it.

“I usually find the harder I work, the greater the rewards I get.”
