SIR JOHN PART OF ROYALS’ NEW ERA
FORMER Reading owner Sir John Madejski has been appointed the Royals’ new vice-chairman.
Reading enjoyed swathes of success, including a first-ever promotion to the top tier of English football in 2006, under the ownership of Madjeski – who took over the club in 1990 before selling it to Anton Zingarevich in 2012.
In May this year, Dai Yongge and Dai Xiu Li bought the Royals and appointed Ron Gourlay as chief executive, a role he formerly held at Chelsea.
Now Madejski, who founded Auto Trader, has stepped away from footballing matters to take up a new ambassadorial position.
“This is a new era at Reading football club,” said Gourlay.
“Yet it is plain for absolutely all to see – supporters young and old, players past and present, the club’s staff, its owners and directors, and all involved in football – how momentous a part Sir John has played in the creation, progression and success earned by the modern, ambitious club we all support today.
“So I am delighted, as we enter this new era at Reading, Sir John has happily agreed to continue to help promote our club’s achievements and publicly praise its many merits within a community he continues to serve so selflessly.”
