OXFORD United new boy Alex Mowatt’s aim is simple – to create goals and play good football.

The 22-year-old midfielder joined the U’s on deadline day, agreeing a season-long loan deal, having failed to nail down a regular spot for Championship side Barnsley.

And the ex-England Under-20 international was clear about what he hopes to bring to his new club.

“I like to create and score goals, but I’d like to think I will work very hard for the team, too,” said Mowatt.

“Anywhere centrally is my preferred position.

“I just want to come and play in a style of football that I like. That’s my only aim.”

Mowatt joined Barnsley from Leeds in January, but, clearly not content with playing back-up, the forward has moved south in search of regular action.

“I wanted to start the season playing and I had not been doing that,” he added.

“The reason I left Leeds to join Barnsley was because I wasn’t playing and, at 22, I need to be involved.

“You don’t feel part of it, so I am here to play and get back to the form I had a year ago.”
