ROWETT EAGER TO SECURE LEDLEY
GARY Rowett is keen to keep Joe Ledley at Derby County.
In September, the 30year-old Wales international, who had been a free agent after leaving Crystal Palace, put pen to paper on a short-term deal that keeps him at Pride Park until January.
The midfielder has suitably impressed so far in a Rams shirt, scoring once in six Championship appearances.
Derby manager Rowett says that he is keen to tie Ledley down to a longer deal, even if discussions with the player’s representatives have been kept mostly under wraps.
Speaking on Thursday, Rowett said: “We sat down about ten days ago with Joe and his representatives and I made it clear that my intention is to keep him.
“There has been a lot of speculation over whether or not we would do that and, of course, until there is final news, everyone thinks you are not trying to do that.
“The reality is we want to try and keep him. Of course, that will be down to the club, Joe and his representatives.
“I think he has really enjoyed it here – he has loved being back playing.
“We are hopeful we can come to some sort of longer agreement, because he has proved he is integral to what we are doing.”
