After qualifying as teachers, they worked in school while playing part-time in Non-League. Midfielder Danny played for Harlow, Boreham Wood and Hornchurch before injury ended his career in 2007. Nicky, a striker, spent the bulk of his career at Concord Rangers, making 268 appearances and winning promotion from the Essex Senior League to National League South. Managerial career: Appointed Concord manager in 2007, Danny was the architect of those three promotions, initially with joint-boss Danny Scopes. Nicky joined the coaching staff in 2012 and has been his assistant since 2014. The duo joined National League Braintree in 2015 and led the Iron to the highest finish in their history (third) before losing to Grimsby in the play-off semi-finals. Head-hunted by Lincoln City in the summer of 2016, the Cowleys moved to Sincil Bank and won the National League title in their first season, ending the Imps’ six-year absence from the EFL. They also reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, knocking out Premier League Burnley before losing 5-0 to eventual winners Arsenal at the Emirates.
