FRANK AND U’S TO MAKE NOUBLE EFFORT...

- By Edmund Magnus

FRANK Nouble knows what it’s like to have to fight for a starting position – and he also knows what it’s like being part of a team fighting for promotion.

The Colchester striker, who has played for 14 different clubs throughout his career and been involved in multiple promotion pushes, believes the U’s are well placed to finish the season strongly when league action resumes.

The 28-year-old striker has aided the U’s with five goals and five assists so far this season, and proved a handful on his return to the starting XI against Carlisle last week – where his side ran out comfortable 3-0 winners.

Nouble now hopes to play a regular role in the U’s push for promotion.

“It was good to come back into the team after three games on the bench and play well and win the game – long may that continue,” said the former Chelsea academy player.

Nouble also hinted that the secret of Colchester’s most recent victory might well have been the decision to play two men up front: “We’ve changed formation a couple of times in the last two or three games. We played two up front last week and it worked well.”

The U’s now sit in sixth position following an inconsistent period in the league during which they have won three and lost three of their last six games.

Despite that patchiness they remain on course for the play-offs, should they happen, albeit being just one point above eighth-placed Port Vale.

Nouble wants to take things game by game and not let any focus slip away. “We have got something to play for, and I think in life you want to be fighting for something, so it’s good pressure in my opinion,” he added.
