Children’s club plan for move
Dalbeattie Playgroup always has the future in mind for the children who go there but now its own future needs attention.
With only a year left at its current Dalbeattie Primary site the pre-school organisation will soon be in need of new premises.
The long-term “aspiration” of a portable modular building which could be “adapted” as and when needed costs £35,000 so that dream will have to be later rather than sooner.
In the meantime its on with the fundraising and securing new interim premises.
Playgroup chairman Ian McMickan said: “We are actively looking for new premises as we only have a year left in the school.
“Our long term aspiration is to have a modern modular building, located within a central location in the town.
“We are looking for funding, donations and any help possible to make our dreams come true.
“But that’s not possible right away and we’ll need temporary facilities for the next year or two at least. We are looking at one or two places but nothing has been secured yet.
“We need the community’s support. The mums, dads and grandparents of the children there and who have previously attended to support us at event like our next coffee morning.”
That fundraising event is on Saturday, September 30 in Dalbeattie Town Hall. The group’s AGM is two days earlier on Thursday, September 28.

Dalbeattie Primary School pupils are leaving their current Southwick Road site this October to move into the new £25 million campus which is nearing completion on the edge of town.
