Light­ing up the dark skies

A light will be shone on the Ste­wartry at Europe’s first ever Dark Sky Places con­fer­ence next week.

Ex­perts from across the globe will be tak­ing part in the sum­mit, which is be­ing held at the Cally Palace in Gate­house of Fleet from Septem­ber 20 to 22.

Speak­ers will cover top­ics on light de­sign and pol­lu­tion as well as arts, science and health ben­e­fits.There will also be the chance to de­bate and learn.

Dr Al Grauer from the Cos­mic Camp Ground Dark Sky Sanc­tu­ary in Ari­zona will be talk­ing about his ob­ser­va­tions from around the globe and closer to home and there will also be a talk from As­tron­omy Royal for Scot­land Pro­fes­sor John Brown.

The con­fer­ence is be­ing hosted jointly by Galloway For­est Dark Sky Park and Galloway and South­ern Ayr­shire Bio­sphere.
