Kids learn tennis ABCs
Eleven junior Dalbeattie Tennis Club members enjoyed a morning of tennis-themed drills and games on Saturday.
The group, all part of the club’s regular Friday coaching setup, were entertained by a variety of drills designed to develop the vital ABCs of the sport – agility, balance and co-ordination.
Club coach and president Keith Thom ran the session with the help of committee members and commented that it was also good to see the parents getting involved.
Working with their kids on core skills using bean bags and cuddly toys rather than tennis balls makes the drills more fun and challenging which is something he picked up working alongside Judy Murray as part of the Tennis on the Road programme.
Due to the Scottish weather it’s easy to practice these games indoors to keep developing their hand eye co-ordination over the winter.
Afterwards a buffet was held in the clubhouse with parents and kids where Keith presented medals to all players for their efforts throughout the season.
The club hope to have a new court surface in place for the new season which will allow them to offer 12 month memberships and a better playing experience for players of all abilities young and old.
As a reminder to all members and friends, the club’s annual prizegiving takes place on October 14. Names and payments in advance to club treasurer Ismay Murray.
