Show raises funds for dis­abled group

The Gate­house Horse and Pony Fundrais­ing Show in aid of the Gal­loway Rid­ing for the Dis­abled group was held at Barsto­brick at Ring­ford re­cently.

It was a lovely sunny day and the show ran smoothly, prov­ing to be a great suc­cess with par­tic­i­pants and spec­ta­tors alike.

This year’s se­nior cham­pion and win­ner of the Wil­lie McKay Cham­pi­onship cup was Ash­ley Burns, from Irongray, Dum­fries, rid­ing Hill­garth Balt­hazar. Se­nior re­serve cham­pion was Elaine Muir from Kirkcud­bright rid­ing Donau­sor­cha.

The ju­nior cham­pi­onship cup was won by Lindsey Mun­dell from Collin, Dum­fries, rid­ing Gem. Ju­nior re­serve cham­pion was Molly McCub­bin from Bridge of Dee, rid­ing Fizz.

The mini ju­nior cham­pi­onship cup was won by Molly McCub­bin from Bridge of Dee rid­ing Fizz. Mini ju­nior re­serve ham­pion was Freya Glover from Cas­tle Dou­glas rid­ing Te­ly­nay Royal Dig­natary.

Once again the rid­ers from the Gal­loway RDA (pre­vi­ously known as Machars RDA Group) par­tic­i­pated by com­pet­ing in the handy pony com­pe­ti­tion which was won by Jonathan Martin. The fam­ily horse/pony class was won by Do­minic Arm­strong and the eq­ui­tation/trec class was won by Taryn Cot­ton.

The above classes were fol­lowed by the newly re­in­stated dres­sage classes.

The In­tro A2008 class was won by Beth McDon­ald from New­ton Ste­wart, the Pre­lim2 2016 was won by Finn McMicken from New­ton Ste­wart and the Novice30 2006 was won by Rose Fo­ley from the Coach House, Queens Hill, Ring­ford. These classes proved very pop­u­lar, re­ceiv­ing the greatest num­ber of en­tries.

The or­gan­is­ers would like to thank judges Mar­garet Bar­bour, Char­lotte Arm­strong, Anne Plum­mer, Jenny Picken, dres­sage writer Gis­selle Brown and all helpers and vol­un­teers who gave their time freely and with­out their help the event would not have taken place. Also thanks to the res­tau­rant staff for the lovely food and great ser­vice.
