Show raises funds for disabled group
The Gatehouse Horse and Pony Fundraising Show in aid of the Galloway Riding for the Disabled group was held at Barstobrick at Ringford recently.
It was a lovely sunny day and the show ran smoothly, proving to be a great success with participants and spectators alike.
This year’s senior champion and winner of the Willie McKay Championship cup was Ashley Burns, from Irongray, Dumfries, riding Hillgarth Balthazar. Senior reserve champion was Elaine Muir from Kirkcudbright riding Donausorcha.
The junior championship cup was won by Lindsey Mundell from Collin, Dumfries, riding Gem. Junior reserve champion was Molly McCubbin from Bridge of Dee, riding Fizz.
The mini junior championship cup was won by Molly McCubbin from Bridge of Dee riding Fizz. Mini junior reserve hampion was Freya Glover from Castle Douglas riding Telynay Royal Dignatary.
Once again the riders from the Galloway RDA (previously known as Machars RDA Group) participated by competing in the handy pony competition which was won by Jonathan Martin. The family horse/pony class was won by Dominic Armstrong and the equitation/trec class was won by Taryn Cotton.
The above classes were followed by the newly reinstated dressage classes.
The Intro A2008 class was won by Beth McDonald from Newton Stewart, the Prelim2 2016 was won by Finn McMicken from Newton Stewart and the Novice30 2006 was won by Rose Foley from the Coach House, Queens Hill, Ringford. These classes proved very popular, receiving the greatest number of entries.
The organisers would like to thank judges Margaret Barbour, Charlotte Armstrong, Anne Plummer, Jenny Picken, dressage writer Gisselle Brown and all helpers and volunteers who gave their time freely and without their help the event would not have taken place. Also thanks to the restaurant staff for the lovely food and great service.
Organisers are also grateful to: Robin Austin of Barstobrick Equestrian for the excellent facilities provided by the centre; Irvings Bakery, Castle Douglas, and all the others who kindly donated prizes to the raffle and to all the sponsors; Tarff Valley, Twynholm; The Gallery at Laurieston; Farrier Graham Findlater; Buckaroo Biz, Dumfries; Lloyds Equestrian Supplies, Dumfries; The Book Shop, Castle Douglas; The Health Food Shop, Castle Douglas; and WCF Supplies, Castle Douglas; for their generous donations.
