The Galloway News - - DISTRICT NEWS - Stuart Gillespie

The fourth Folktober music festival was held in Dalbeattie over the weekend.

Organised by the town’s acoustic club, the three-day event let people enjoy a variety of folk music.

And there was also the chance for them to get involved themselves through workshops in harmony and blues guitars and a drop-in music session.

Festival director Billy Henderson said: “It went pretty well and we’ll be holding it again next year.

“We had three concerts. Two were pretty full but the family one, unfortunately, was only half-full.

“Apart from that it was really good. I’ve been getting e-mails from folk saying how good it was and that they’d see us next year.”

The Birchtree Hotel, the King’s Arms Hotel and the town hall were used as venues with performances from Sylvia Barnes and Andy Stanage, The Hokum Hotshots, Mary Barclay and Doug Carroll among the music on offer.
