Remembering Audrey with her favourite songs
A special day of song to commemorate a much-loved teacher will take place next week.
Audrey Brockett taught at Dalbeattie High and Lockerbie Academy and was heavily involved in music in the region as a member of multiple choirs.
She passed away in June at the age of 54 but had already picked the music for the concert, which takes place at St John’s Church, Dumfries, on November 11.
Close friend Frank Davis said: “Audrey was very unassuming. You didn’t know what you had in front of you until you saw and heard what she was capable of.
“She was always effervescent and never had a bad word to say about anybody; she always tried to find the good in people.”
Audrey, right, was a member of the Dalgarno Singers and the founding director of the National Youth Choirs of Scotland Dumfries branch, which she led for 10 years.
She was also heavily involved in Dumfries and District Music Festival Association, led The Lockerbie Singers and set up all-women group The Dolce Divas.
The evening concert will feature Speed Your Journey, by Verdi, and Climb Every Mountain from The Sound of Music.
The Dalgarno Singers will be conducted by Rory McLatchie, one of Audrey’s former pupils at Dalbeattie who progressed through the NYCOS system to the national choirs.
At least 30 members of The Lockerbie Singers are coming back to revive that group. Robert Lind will sing a couple of Audrey’s favourite pieces as will the Dolce Divas. Singers ingers drawn from the NYCOS Dumfries es (alumni), directed by Helen Teale, le, will also perform.
A fundraising Come and Sing event, open to anyone who knew w Audrey, will take place in the afternoon, with the concert in the evening.
Those wanting to be involved in the Come and Sing session are asked to be in St John’s Church, Lovers Walk, by 2.45pm. The concert starts at 7.00pm.
