Re­mem­ber­ing Au­drey with her favourite songs

A spe­cial day of song to com­mem­o­rate a much-loved teacher will take place next week.

Au­drey Brock­ett taught at Dal­beat­tie High and Locker­bie Academy and was heav­ily in­volved in mu­sic in the re­gion as a mem­ber of mul­ti­ple choirs.

She passed away in June at the age of 54 but had al­ready picked the mu­sic for the con­cert, which takes place at St John’s Church, Dum­fries, on Novem­ber 11.

Close friend Frank Davis said: “Au­drey was very unas­sum­ing. You didn’t know what you had in front of you un­til you saw and heard what she was ca­pa­ble of.

“She was al­ways ef­fer­ves­cent and never had a bad word to say about any­body; she al­ways tried to find the good in peo­ple.”

Au­drey, right, was a mem­ber of the Dal­garno Singers and the found­ing di­rec­tor of the Na­tional Youth Choirs of Scot­land Dum­fries branch, which she led for 10 years.

She was also heav­ily in­volved in Dum­fries and District Mu­sic Fes­ti­val As­so­ci­a­tion, led The Locker­bie Singers and set up all-women group The Dolce Di­vas.

The evening con­cert will fea­ture Speed Your Jour­ney, by Verdi, and Climb Ev­ery Moun­tain from The Sound of Mu­sic.

The Dal­garno Singers will be con­ducted by Rory McLatchie, one of Au­drey’s for­mer pupils at Dal­beat­tie who pro­gressed through the NYCOS sys­tem to the na­tional choirs.

At least 30 mem­bers of The Locker­bie Singers are com­ing back to re­vive that group. Robert Lind will sing a cou­ple of Au­drey’s favourite pieces as will the Dolce Di­vas. Singers in­gers drawn from the NYCOS Dum­fries es (alumni), di­rected by He­len Teale, le, will also per­form.

A fundrais­ing Come and Sing event, open to any­one who knew w Au­drey, will take place in the af­ter­noon, with the con­cert in the evening.

Those want­ing to be in­volved in the Come and Sing ses­sion are asked to be in St John’s Church, Lovers Walk, by 2.45pm. The con­cert starts at 7.00pm.

Money raised will go to Can­cer Re­search, The Brain Tu­mour Char­ity and The Mo­tor Neu­rone Dis­ease As­so­ci­a­tion.
