Rescue team man’s royal mission

The Galloway News - - HIGH COURT CASE -

Galloway Mountain Rescue team was called out on a special mission last week – but there wasn’t a casualty in sight.

Instead, veteran member Ken McCubbin donned his best suit to catch the early train from Carlisle to Euston to attend a garden party held by Prince Charles.

Ken, 70, was among four Scottish Mountain Rescue delegates invited by the Duke of Rothesay to the Buckingham Palace bash.

Charles’ 70th birthday patronage celebration last Tuesday was attended by around 6,000 people.

Ken, who has been a GMRT member for 43 years, said: “These days don’t come along very often and when you get the opportunity you want to savour every moment. Charles and Camilla were just half a metre away from me.”
