Tack­ling the peaks

Fire­fight­ers and moun­tain res­cuers will join forces to take on the first Gal­loway Three Peaks Chal­lenge for char­ity on Satur­day,

The event will be­gin at 8.30am with an as­cent of the Mer­rick at 843m be­fore mov­ing on to Cairns­more of Fleet at 711m.

The final leg will see team mem­bers scale Crif­fel at 569m, with the tar­get be­ing to fin­ish the chal­lenge within 24 hours.

Gal­loway Moun­tain Res­cue Team mem­bers will be com­pet­ing in aid of the Teenage Can­cer Trust.

One of the GMRT’s mem­bers has a young daugh­ter who has been fight­ing can­cer for well over a year and the team wanted to do some­thing to help those who have been sup­port­ing her.

Fire ser­vice per­son­nel will be rais­ing funds for the Scot­tish Fire and Res­cue Fam­ily Sup­port Trust.

Any­one who would like to spon­sor the GMRT in their ef­forts is asked to con­tact any team mem­ber.

The fire ser­vice team can be spon­sored through any lo­cal fire sta­tion or any of the per­son­nel who are in­volved.
