Castle Douglas ladies go top in league race

The Galloway News - - READER TRAVEL -

Both the Dumfries and Galloway ladies and gents doubles leagues have reached the half way point of the season and Castle Douglas ladies are looking good to retain their title.

The Castle Douglas ladies team comprising Susan Nugent, Charlotte Carson, Kirstin Hannay, Jane Hainey and Lindsay Kennedy are in top position with seven points from four matches, only dropping one point in an away match to Dalbeattie ladies.

This week, the Castle Douglas ladies have a double header, with a home match against Kirkcudbright followed by a crucial home tie against Dalbeattie.

In the gents league, Castle Douglas men are in third place, but once again Dumfries A team are looking unstoppable in their quest to win the league yet again, with Dumfries putting out five men’s teams in leagues this year whilst other clubs struggle to get one team out every Wednesday evening.

The Castle Douglas gents team in 2018 has been selected from Geoff Legg, Colin Kennedy, Bruce Todd, Rab Peacock and Derek Williamson and they have been enjoying their matches.

But they do not expect to be challenging this year against the very strong Dumfries top team, although they very nearly got a draw when playing them away at Nunholm earlier in the season.

In the gents B league, last year’s relegated team, Kirkcudbright are in the leading position and have to see off the challenge of newcomers, Annan (Seaforth) to gain promotion back to the top flight.
