Show time at Carsphairn

The Galloway News - - FARMING REVIEW -

Top of the crop at this year’s Carsphairn Show was a Blackface ewe hogg from Willie Lockhart of Culdoach Farm, Tongland, Kirkcudbright.

Despite a slight drop in entries and a storm threat, the 127th show on Saturday was voted another great success.

The high quality of the mainly sheep show was commented on by the judges and the show of Blackface Sheep, which rivals shows across the country, was maintained.

The good weather for most of the day helped boost the gate numbers which were significantly up on the year. Then late in the afternoon torrential rain hit the area but by this time most of the animals had left the showfield except for the sheepdog competitors.

Show secretary Anne Finlay was pleased the way the show organised by the Carsphairn Pastoral and Horticultural Society had gone.

She said: “We had great weather for most of the day but the sheepdog trials caught the torrential rain later in the day but they went on to finish.”
