Sports day raises £3,000
An old-fashioned sports day raised more than £3,000 for charity on Saturday.
Crowds flocked to Stewartry Rugby Club, on the outskirts of Castle Douglas, to watch or try classic races such as the sack race and the egg and spoon.
The day was organised by Soenaid Anderson, of KBT Pharmacy, to raise funds for the diabetes charity JDRF.
Soenaid, whose teenage daughter Maisie has type one diabetes, said: “The day was brilliant. I’m totally flabbergasted by the support we received and the weather was great.
“Everybody said it was better than the knockout that we have done before. It was an amazing day and we didn’t even have too many injuries.”
Thanks go to all the helpers, friends and businesses who provided donations or prizes and Stewartry Rugby Club who were gracious and helpful hosts.
