A “risk to human health” has led to the temporary closure of a razorfish production area.
The council is “strongly advising” people not to gather razorfish for human consumption in the area that covers Fleet Bay and Fleet Islands, Kirkcudbright Bay and Wigtown Bay.
A council spokesman said: There are specific rules for controls on animal food products intended for human consumption and the closure is because insufficient samples have been submitted for analysis to demonstrate that the razorfish are fit for human consumption.
“The council will continue to analyse samples and review the situation.”
