Healthy eating learning bears fruit for pupils

The Galloway News - - SCHOOL NEWS -

As part of their health and wellbeing, pupils at Dalry Primary and early learning and childcare are finding ways they can maintain a healthy diet.

Each Friday P4/5 run “Fruity Friday” where children from across the school are encouraged to swap their usual snack and bring in a piece of fruit.

To help the children learn more about the variety food they could eat to help them maintain a healthy lifestyle, Charlie Coid, proprietor of Fleet Fish, has agreed to call in at the school each week.

Last Friday morning, as part of his Glenkens round delivering fresh fruit, vegetables, fish and eggs amongst other things, Charlie stopped outside the school and showed the children some of the different fruits he had on board and discussed with the children the seasonality of the fresh produce he sells.

The visit ended with the pupils deciding on a fruit for their classmates to sample this week; they all agreed the tangerines were delicious.

Many of the children are wondering which fruit will be chosen next week when Charlie visits them again.
