Body of missing doctor found in woodland
Tributes have poured in for Dr George Porteous after his body was found following extensive searches.
Police, mountain rescue and underwater teams scoured the area around Beeswing after Dr Porteous, 51, went missing last week.
They discovered a man’s body onTuesday morning in woodland. He was identified as the doctor and his family was informed.
A police spokesman said;“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.”
His car was found abandoned near Beeswing last week sparking fears for his safety and friends insisted his disappearance was“out of character”.
Dr Porteous, who lived at Islesteps, had gone missing after leaving work at the Lockerbie Medical Practice lastTuesday night.
The alarm was raised when the doctor, known as Alex, failed to return to his home in Islesteps.
His car was discovered at Beeswing onThursday prompting an intensive search of the area over the following days.
Finally, the grim discovery of Dr Porteous’body was made by y officers in woods near the village.
An NHS spokesman said:“It is with great sadness that we have learned of the death of Dr Alex Porteous, GP at Lockerbie Medical Practice.”
A message on the Lockerbie practice website read:“It is with great sadness that we learned of the death of Dr Porteous. He will be sorely missed by us all.”
And Dr Grecy Bell, Deputy Medical Director of Dumfries and Galloway Health and Social Care Partnership, said:“All our thoughts are with Dr Porteous’family, friends, colleagues and patients at the practice at this time.”
